The theme of this year’s Global Forum in Warsaw (June 12-14),
“Societies and Organizations, Leadership and Learning in Transition”,
directly addresses what many of us see and experience on a daily basis. There is a great deal of unpredictability in the air as we try and grasp why these changes are taking place and where they will lead us. Complicating matters is that the pace and rate of these transitions are accelerating as never before.
We see generational and major demographic changes in our families, companies, countries, societies and in new political administrations and regimes around the world. The expressions of localism, populism, and economic nationalism seem not only more widespread but also more strident in tone, leading to a rise of uncertainty and even fear about our security, prosperity, and well-being.
Even the pace of rapid technology-based innovations, solutions and products seem overwhelming and yet inspiring at the same time. As a result, there are calls for new leadership competencies based on what appear to be different values and behaviours than those we have seen since the founding of the Global Forum twenty-one years ago. Not surprisingly, therefore, a recent special report in The Economist (January 14-20, 2017) argued that one of the most important ways out of this situation is “Lifelong Learning” [link], both for individuals, organizations and societies.
This Global Forum will be examining and sharing experiences about events and trends which are presently influencing and shaping societal, organizational, and company transitions--and how these are placing new demands on present and emerging leaders. We will be exploring several themes:
- Societies, Industries and Companies in Transition and Change
- Leadership and Leaders in Transition
- Learning in Transition: Learning Faster than the Rate of Change
We are also pleased to report already confirmed participation and presentations from many companies, incubators, start-ups, organizations, and thought leaders, among them:
Action Lab, Combiner.com (Sweden), Daimler, Danone, Eli Lilly, Engie (France), Flex (Flextronics), General Electric Digital, Husqvarna Group, IBM, Intel, the International Executive Development Center (IEDC)-Bled (Slovenia), L'Oreal, MiL Institute, MIT, Novo Nordisk, SABIC (Saudi Arabia), Siemens, Smart Cargo Solutions, (Poland), Toyota, UPS, Volkswagen, and the Warsaw School of Economics. |
